Research centred on fine jewellery photography and the optical behaviour of cut diamonds. References focused on how light enters and refracts through a faceted stone, how polished metal picks up and bounces surrounding light, and how the small accent stones set into the band catch light at different angles. Both bright and dark backgrounds were studied to test the stone's brilliance in different settings.
Two directions were explored. A bright, high-key composition isolates the ring to emphasise clarity and sparkle, while a dark presentation-box scene builds drama and shows the piece as it would appear at the point of sale. Lighting was tuned to maximise the fire in the central stone without losing the detail in the surrounding metalwork.

The model was built with accurate faceting on the central stone and clean geometry across the scrollwork and accent stones. Materials were tuned for realistic diamond dispersion, polished white gold, and the sparkle of the smaller set stones. A full clay render confirmed proportion, setting, and lighting before any materials were applied, locking the composition ahead of final rendering.
